Underground Repair Causes

These are only two examples. Tree roots can grow and spread to split or crack fittings/pipe.

The other example is something customers or even the other companies would not think of. This pool deck was slab jacked to level out the concrete. After the deck is core drilled, liquid concrete is used to float the concrete level. The problem is that the liquid concrete used around a pool can cause major damage to the underground plumbing and equipment. It will find every open crevice and will fill with the material. This picture shows the concrete was pressurized and cracked the fitting along with the pipe going to the swimming pool skimmer.

Replumbed Filtration System

The closeness of the filtration system to the pool helps with greater suction and less heat loss for heating.

This filtration system was relocated from the basement to the customer’s garage which is next to the pool. The system in the basement can be very problematical. The chemical fumes seeping throughout the house and the chance of the pool water flooding back to the level of the pool. All plumbing was completed with schedule 40, 2 x 1.5″ PVC at the time of replacement.

Properly-sized gas and electrical lines were run. This is a large concrete swimming pool with a 12′ deep end, 2 skimmers, 5 returns, main drain, 3 sheer waterfalls and 4 suctions for waterfalls. Filtration system had to be sized accordingly. Heater stand was also designed and installed by Watertown.

Pump Running Dry

This is an example of a pump operating without proper water flow coming into the pump.

Heat is generated at a very high level, when it does not have the water to cool the temperature down. There are many reasons why this would happen. Sometime it’s as simple as the pump lid not being tight enough or the o-ring not installed properly. This heat generated can also loosen up the plumbing on the in and out ports of the pump. The motor’s shaft seals can also be damaged. These can become costly repairs.

Watertown would be more than happy to teach new or previous pool owners things to be aware of to save time & money.

Bypass Valve Assembly

This valve system is used when the heater is not going to be in operation. The customer can divert the water flow so it does not go through the heater.

The advantages to having this operation are many, improved circulation because of less resistance going through the heater. The main advantage is life expectancy for the heater. Gas swimming pool heaters contain a heat exchanger made from copper, cupro-nickel or titanium. All are affected from water flow and when the water chemistry; salt, ph, alkalinity, calcium levels are off, this will wear down the small water ports much faster.

This system will also work with heat pumps. Replacing the heat exchangers is the most costly replacement item on a heater.

Filtration Sand Needed

When the filter head is removed, you can see the life left in the filtration sand.

This filter badly needed a change & also the level of sand is down considerably. Every 3-5 years a change is recommended. The pipe you see in the middle is called the lateral assembly. They become very brittle over time so we install a new unit at the time of exchanging the filtration sand.

Once this procedure is completed you will notice a considerable increase with suction when vacuuming your pool. The clarity of the water will be quite noticeably better also.

Above Ground System Replumbing

This is an example on how we re-plumbed an above ground filtration system. Watertown installed schedule 80 PVC unions to break system down for storing equipment at closing time. We also plumb in gate & check values that can be shut off when servicing the pool pump, filter, heater, and automatic chlorinator systems.

This is so the pool’s water level does not drain back through the pump due to being lower than your pool’s water level. Just cleaning the swimming pool pump basket can be an ordeal without being able to shut the water supply off.
