Concrete to Vinyl Pool – Gallery 4

This is a very old concrete bottom and fibreglass wall pool. Watertown first remodelled this complete pool 25 years ago. As you can see from the photos, this pool needed everything replaced or repaired. We changed the shape also by installing the stair inside the rectangular shape.

Corners were converted from a 3′ radius to 2′ cut all new suctions, returns, filtration lines and coping had been replaced. A pattern concrete pool deck was also laid down. Customer had a 500 watt high voltage light which we converted over to a low voltage aqua lamp. In the year 2010 a new liner was needed as you can see from the pictures. At this time our customer wanted Watertown to upgrade and move their filtration system out from their basement. Filtration lines we extended to reach the back of their property. A property sized gas and hydro lines were run to a new filtration pad we poured. Watertown ran the skimmer line in 2’’ pipe because of the distance from the pool to pump. All new equipment was installed, along with a new hi-efficiency gas heating unit. Watertown left enough room on the filter pad so the customer could stand when operating their equipment. Now our customers are all set for another 20 plus years to enjoy their pool and new heating system.

This is an example on how some concrete pools were constructed. A concrete floor was poured in place. Then they used the outside perimeter of the floor as a footing to build the walls out of concrete blocks. Not the best method to contain water and really limited the shape of these types of pools.

Once again, the entire structure, suction, returns, coping and filtration lines needed to be replaced. Watertown changed the angle of each corner from 90 degrees to a 6″ cut corner. This allowed the liner to stay in the track much better and helped with the water circulation. We formed and poured a pea stone cap around the perimeter of the pool, then a new concrete pool deck complete.

This concrete pool was in very rough shape. The concrete deck, pool interior surface, coping, skimmer/returns and all filtration lines needed to be replaced. Watertown can take a very old concrete pool and convert into a brand new up to date liner pool. The basic structure of this type of pool is very strong and a great pool body to start with.

This conversion resolved all losing water problems and on the internal walls of the pool were re-parged to make a smooth surface for the liner to sit against. Installing this type of PVC coping allowed the customer to have a lock in winter cover. Watertown changed the positioning of the skimmer plus added extra returns for better water circulation and chemical distribution.

If you have an older concrete pool, contact Watertown and we can go over many different options that can be offered to you.

These pictures show a calcium buildup that we had to resolve on one of our customer’s concrete pool.

Salt Water

This customer had two salt generators. One unit was for their concrete pool and the other for the spa.

Watertown has a little different view then most companies on salt systems. There are limitations we have found on salt being able to keep pools/spas sanitized to the correct levels. On smaller sport pools they seem to work fine. This specific pool was large, deep and on the lake which all affects the chemistry of water. We converted both over to bromine systems, which has made the water much easier to maintain. Salt also can be corrosive to the pool equipment.

These pictures show the salt deposits where we had to repair some small leaks. There are many options Watertown can offer for keeping your water in balance. Chlorinators, brominators, salt chlorine generators, ozone generators to ultra violet systems.

Water Chemistry

The chemistry of your swimming pool water is so very important. It affects safety, enjoyment, equipment, environment and your sanity. It can drive you crazy if it’s made complicated, and you wish you had a university degree in chemistry to operate and maintain your pool water correctly.

Educating our customers with everything to do with maintaining your water simply is our goal. Most testing of your water can be made on site, but if you want to bring a sample in, Watertown would suggest Sunrise Pools & Spas. Their staff can give you what product and suggest the amounts to add and rectify any problems. If you cannot call us and we’ll test and adjust your water on site for you.
