Sports Pool Conversions

In this group of pictures Watertown shows some of the pools that we have changed full depth to a sport pool.

Some of the benefits are being able to stand above the water level in the entire pool. This is wonderful for children, elderly or for playing water volleyball and more. Cleaning the swimming pool is much easier with the decrease in depth. You will find the amount of chemicals to maintain the proper water chemistry is much less, as well. I would have to say heating is one of the main factors. In a full depth pool the sun cannot reach down to the bottom to help heat.

If you do have a heating system for your pool, the time frame will amaze you heating a sport over a full depth pool. When heating, the water should be drawn to the pump from the main drains (lowest point). Then after returning throughout the pool returns will lessen the time to bring up the temperature.

Remodelling – Gallery 4

This older rectangular swimming pool needed to be remodelled in a few different areas. The coping and the concrete pool deck was a terrible tripping hazard and just dangerous.

This pool also had 6″ radius corners which make a very weak area to keep the liner locked correctly into the coping. Watertown changed the corner angle to 6″ cut corners and replaced all the coping to allow the customer to have a lock in winter cover.

A complete new concrete deck was poured before the new liner was installed. New bronze ladder anchors and a diving board jig were installed at pour also.

On this particular remodelling job, Watertown started off with a very structurally sound pool. Our customers wanted to bring the pools technology up to today’s standards. We also installed some features that were not available when the pool was originally installed. The concrete was pulling and cracking away from the coping in areas which is normal for a pool of this age.

As Watertown jack hammered the concrete deck out it exposed the c-frame deck and wall supports. This type of framing members aren’t normal on all pools, but are still the very best for supporting the pool deck. When you see a pool deck tilting or falling away from the pool coping, you will know it does not have this quality of braces. Watertown removed and replaced the skimmer with a top quality wide mouth Hayward skimmer. All new Hayward returns were installed along with an extra one in the middle of the pool for better circulation, heating and chemical distribution. New filtration lines were run complete from pool to filtration system. Thick mill PVC coping was installed for the liner and lock in winter cover.

Watertown installed two aqua lights with dual transformers located with the filtration system. One is located in the deep end and the other is in the shallow end. The lights were installed on the side of the pool closest to the house to light the pool at night and not be seen from the house. A 6’French curve fibre-glass stair was installed. Concrete deck was formed, prepped and ready for a new concrete pool deck. Filtration system, along with heater was relocated inside and completely plumbed in PVC. New liner was installed, chemicals adjusted and our customers were very happy with their new swimming pool.

Concrete to Vinyl Pool – Gallery 6

This specific concrete pool was a full depth concrete bottom and fibreglass walls that was losing a lot of water in 1997.

At the time on conversion Watertown installed a double aluminum coping track system to allow for a lock in winter cover. During the reconstruction this pool was also converted to a sport depth with a new grout bottom. These changes resolved the losing water issue and our customers enjoyed all the wonderful benefits of being able to use the complete are of their pool. Instead of just the small size of the shallow end they had. Flash ahead 15 years later, their pool needed a new liner to be installed. They also wanted a solution to make it easier to enter and exit their swimming pool.

There was not a great deal of deck to work with around the complete pool. Watertown came up with a solution of installing the step inside the pool. We installed an 8′ wedding cake step with a stainless steel railing system for safety. It has been such a pleasure for Watertown to have these individuals as customers for so many years.

Their patronage, kindness and understanding allowing us to do whatever is necessary to meet their needs are greatly appreciated.

Here is another example of a concrete bottom/ fibreglass wall pool that needed updating. Watertown installed new coping with a 16″ pea stone cap around the perimeter of the swimming pool. New wide mouth Hayward skimmer, new returns and filtration lines were run also.

Watertown installed an 8′ fibreglass straight stair over the customer’s existing concrete steps. This saved us time and the customer money in the installation process. With the new liner installed, it really completed the transformation.
